About the Colorado Literacy Research Initiative

Mission
The mission of the Colorado  Literacy Research Initiative (CLRI) is to provide access to research and statistics that inform decision-making for adult education and family literacy programs throughout the state.

Projects
This Initiative consists of four projects, including:

  • the CLRI web site, which provides immediate access to a wide array of databases and research reports;
  • LitScan:  Facts and Figures from the Colorado Literacy Research Initiative, an irregularly published series of fact sheets reporting timely data and research findings regarding literacy;
  • periodic special studies on adult education and family literacy issues (e.g., a 1996 follow-up survey of Colorado GED graduates);
  • technical assistance involving research and statistics issues to staff of the Center for At-Risk Education, its other contractors, and its client programs statewide.

Staff
This Initiative is staffed by Keith Curry Lance, Ph.D., Director of the Library Research Service and staff, as a partnership venture of the Colorado State Library, the Center for At-Risk Education, Colorado Department of Education, and the Library and Information Science Department at the University of Denver. Additional staff are employed as needed on a contract basis, including students in that department.

Partners
